Born in Russia, Mr. Deviatov began playing the violin at the age of five. He received his musical education at the Lysenco Conservatory in Lvov, Ukraine. As a violist, he won top prizes at the Ukrainian Competition, All-USSR Competition, as well as second prize as a conductor at a competition in Kiev. Consequently, he was made music director of the Ivano-Frankivsk Chamber Orchestra,with whom he toured extensively as a conductor and soloist in Ukraine, Poland, Russia, and Hungary. In 1990, Mr. Deviatov joined the well-known Leontovych String Quartet, then based in Kiev, and in 1999 the Lumina String Quartet was very happy to welcome Boris as its member.
