THE ARTIST SHOWCASE EPISODE- SAMIR SAFWAT PHOTOGRAPHS.

Samir Safwat will exhibit his photographs in the Main Reading Room at Darien Library

through October 29th. Born in California and raised in Sweden and Egypt, Safwat's interest in photography began during his childhood and was explored throughout his youth. He returned to the United States to attend college, and after college he apprenticed with a number of photographers in New York City, most notably James Moore (Harpers Bazaar, New York Times Magazine).

Safwats first published photograph (in 1965) was a cover shot of John Tchicai, a well-known saxophonist, for the jazz magazine DownBeat. His career has included working as a freelance photographer for Mademoiselle Magazine as well as for the fashion department at The New York Times.

In the past few years, he has become involved in digital photography, enjoying the full control of the photographic process from exposure to the final print.

Darrin Andrew La Morte met with long time friend Samir Safwat, jazz pianist, photographer/ artist, on October 29th, 2007. Together they talked, about SAMIR SAFWAT PHOTOGRAPHS. Darrin Andrew La Morte had a very brief interview with SAMIR SAFWAT. Filmed October 29th, at The Darien Library. This is probably Samir Safwat last former personal apperance on TV before his death. Samir Safwat was a very good friend of mine. Someone who I will greatly miss. He had a vision and nothing in the world stopped him from achieving his goals as a Jazz pianist, or as professional photographer. He had an underlying desire to achieve perfect with every click of the shutter.
