Karel Appel was a neighbor of mine for almost two decades. I met Karel Appel a few times. Darrin Andrew La Morte will create a wood sculpture in Karel Appel's memory which will be aired on 'The Artist Showcase'Darrin Andrew La Morte.The Artist Showcase', a TV Show for art lovers broadcast in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Karel Appel, an internationally renowned Dutch painter whose impetuous, color-laden canvases were among the most vibrant hallmarks of the postwar European art movement known as Cobra, which he helped found, died on Wednesday at his home in Zurich. He was 85.
We talked a a few times in person and saw him paint. Karel Appel and I, well we spoke to each other I spoke with Karel Appel a few months outside his home studio in Darien. I spoke with Karel Appel I guess it was only a few months before he died. He said, he had to go to the doctor. He asked if he could come over and see my studio my work. Karel Appel then asked me about my work. We talked again for a little while. Again,well, Karel Appel was neighbor for almost two decades. Like most artists do. We talked. I Never did see Karel again after that...
